The sport's day of our school this year holds significant value as it is the last time we can have sport's day in our very own track. I was very excited one day before the sport's day as it is the first time I am having it in my secondary school. There are food and drink stalls set up by the Nanyang girls and also by the ortus parent support group. As the money will be donated to the needy pupils, I bought quite a lot of food although the prices are above average. I truly enjoyed myself during the sport's day. The pupils representing my class came in 3rd for the 4x100m relay. I am happy to see my class cheering for them before and after the race as it really shows how bonded we are. The runners displayed great sportsmanship as they did not grumble even though they lost only by a bit. I am so proud of them! After the event ended, my friends went to the field to play soccer. I rested on a sit in the shade as I was very tired under the hot sun for a very long time. Although it was very hot, I enjoyed myself. We went to the open-air car park at about 11.15am as we are going to an Indian Restaurant to eat. I feel that this sport's day was very successful. I also feel that it is good to have such event as it can not only enhance the relationship between Nanyang girls's high and Hwachong Institution, but also let our relationship between our friends improve. I enjoyed myself during this event on the whole and look forward to the next sport's day!

1st Stanza: The author’s badge signifies hope for the future.
2nd Stanza: Sometimes, black crows are noisy when they sing the National Anthem.
3rd Stanza: The author most probably has CCA on Wednesday which causes his shoes to become dirty.
4th Stanza: The author feels that the scouts are hardworking
5th Stanza: The Malay chauffeurs would tell jokes to each other while waiting for his schoolmates in the car park kerb.
6th Stanza: Seven to the power of five is unreasonable (unfair).
7th Stanza: Mrs. Lee is dressed up in a sarong kebaya during Chinese New Year and sang Bengawan Solo
8th Stanza: Singapore’s capital is Singapore.
9th Stanza: The author’s best friend once shaded all A’s for his Chinese Language multiple-choice paper.
10th, 11th and 12th Stanza: There is a photograph of the author pushing a wheelchair and smiling in their annual yearbook when his eyes were closed.

The poet must have a gone through an interesting school day life. Most of the things he remembered are happy things or things which are significant. I can see that the poet is ‘loyal’ to his school as he remembers the significance of his badge. He remembers the happenings of everyday in his school life example black crows interrupting when the sing the National Anthem and his shoes being dirty on Wednesday. Chinese New Year, an important festival to the Chinese, was also remembered. Therefore, from the poem, I feel that the author would want to go back to his school life as it is very interesting to him. He must be feeling very happy as he recapped all the funny and interesting things then!

Below is the poem I created myself.

Friends are important
They play with you
To make your school life
More meaningful.

Teachers are important
They impart knowledge to you
To make you smarter
And strive in life.

Cleaners are important
They clean the school
To ensure that you
Learn in a conducive environment.

Staffs are important
They settle administrative matters
And help you when you need help
To make you feel welcome in school.

On the 5th of May 2010, I went to Kampong Glam with my class to do a project. The objectives of this project is to plan activities for China athletes when they come to Singapore as Hwa Chong will be hosting them with a budget of twenty dollars. The night before the field trip, I was so anxious as this is the first time I am going out with my secondary school classmates that I totally forgot to bring an extra bag for the trip. Thus, I have to hand-carry everything.

When we reached Kampong Glam, we were split into groups. Together with my group, we walked around taking pictures and exploring the free exhibition in one of the "museums". I did not bring my water bottle along as I thought it would be a nuisance to me, without a bag. The weather was very hot and I had no choice but to buy a drink for $1.50! I was very unlucky on that day. When I was about to pay the uncle money, a few pigeons flew by and one of them "shit" on me. The faeces touched my body and I thought to myself," So dirty and unhygienic!" I quickly wipe it off with a piece of tissue paper before joining my group in taking more pictures.

We visited a restaurant and asked the uncle there for the prices to see whether the price of the food is within our budget. The uncle was very friendly and warm towards us. This made me feel very comfortable when communicating with him.

After taking many pictures and interviewing some people, we decided to take a rest at a coffee shop in Kampong Glam. There, my friend bought can drinks for $1.30 and bottled drinks for $1.90. Then I thought to myself,"Luckily I bought my drink earlier for $1.50, or I would have to pay more for the same drink!" As my friends were exhausted and thirsty, they drank immediately upon paying for the drinks.

Suddenly, one of them exclaimed,"My bottled drink has already expired. The expiry date for this drink is 30th of April!." The other friend laughed at him. Then, the friend who laughed at his peer checked the expiry date of his bottled drink. He realised that his bottled drink expired last year. The both of them were very unlucky as they bought they drinks at such a high price and the drinks have already expired.

Above is just some interesting things that took place. I feel that this trip is very fruitful as I have learnt more about Kampong Glam!
