Mrs Anur P.S: This is the only post I am putting which has nothing to do with the English blog as Mr Balan wants me to pass all these questions to my classmates. There is no time to create another blog, put the questions and inform my friends about the website as they only know my English blog website. Please pardon me.

The Wizard of Oz

This story is about a girl called Dorothy, her dog Toto, Uncle Henry who adopted Dorothy and Aunt Em who was his wife. One day, a very big storm blew Dorothy and her dog, together with the house to an unknown place. Aunt Em and Uncle Henry escaped the storm. When she woke up, she was amazed to see a very beautiful scenery outside of the house. Later, she found out that she had actually landed in the land of the Munchkins and that she had killed the wicked witch of the East unknowingly with her house. The wicked witch of East had been using the Munchkins (people who lived in the land of the East where the witch ruled) as slaves. Then, Dorothy travels to the City of Emeralds to find the Wizard of Oz who could help her to get back to her homeland, Kansas. On her way, she saves Scarecrow (who wishes to have a brain), Tin Woodman (who wishes to have a heart) and the Cowardly Lion (who wishes to have courage) whom later part in the story, helps her in the battle against the wicked witch of the West. She reaches the City of Emeralds and the Wizard of Oz wanted Dorothy and her friends to kill the Wicked witch of West before he would help them. After numerous challenges they faced, they finally killed the witch and got what they each desire to have.

My favourite character is Dorothy. I feel that as a little girl, she is very mature to be able to handle things very well and this can be seen from the adventure where she kills the Wicked Witch of West. She is also very brave as she kills the witch with her friends. She is a very loving girl and she likes her family a lot. When she completes her 'mission', the first thing she wants to do is to get back to Kansas as she misses her uncle and aunt. This story is very interesting and I enjoy it a lot.

L. Frank Baum (15 May 1856 - 6 May 1919) was an American author of children's books, best known for writing The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He was born in Chittenango, New York in 1856. His father, Benjamin Baum was a wealthy businessman, originally a barrel maker, who had made his fortune in the oil fields of Pennsylvania. Baum started writing at an early age, perhaps due to an early fascination with printing(his father bought him a cheap printing press).

Saffy's Angel

This story is about four Casson children, whose mother, Eve is a fine-arts painter, have all been given the names of paint colours. Cadmium (Caddy) is the eldest; then Saffron (Saffy); Indigo, the only boy; and Rose, the youngest. Saffy discovers that she is adopted and and is very sad, although the others assure her that it did not make any difference at all. Saffy is actually the daughter of Eve's twin sister, who lived in Siena, Italy, and died in a car crash. Thus, Grandad brought Saffy, as a very small child, back from Siena. When Grandad dies, he left something to each of the children. However, as the will is written around 8-10 years ago, some of the things left behind like the house for Caddy and car for Indigo. He leaves Saffy with a stone angel and Saffy treat it like a treasure and is determined to find the angel as that is the only thing she felt could make her feel not so left out. Indigo dislikes school and Caddy had failed a lot of exams but she aspires to work in a zoo. Caddy also had a driving instructor named Michael. Indigo aspires to be a polar explorer and thus he is curing himself of vertigo by sitting by the windowsill. Sunday afternoons were used to discuss important events where the whole family sits together. Saffy eventually finds her angel with the help of Sarah, her neighbour whose legs are very weak that she has to sit on a wheelchair using the method of stow-away. Although she sits on a wheelchair, she is very energetic. Later in the story, we find out that the discipline mistress of the private school is actually her mother and Sarah understands her parents really well from the phrase,"would probably reply".

My favourite character in this book is Sarah. I feel that Sarah is very smart and she had always done her "homework" when she is planning for something. She has the never give up spirit even though she is physically handicapped. She gives the reader the message that one must not give up even if we have physical disabilities. I would recommend this book to those handicapped people so that they would be motivated and be like Sarah.

This book is written by Hilary Mckay. She is a young English author and acquired a degree in botany and zoology at St. Andrews University. She took up several jobs and one of them is laboratory work as an analyst. She now lives with her family in Derbyshire, England.
