The Wizard of Oz
This story is about a girl called Dorothy, her dog Toto, Uncle Henry who adopted Dorothy and Aunt Em who was his wife. One day, a very big storm blew Dorothy and her dog, together with the house to an unknown place. Aunt Em and Uncle Henry escaped the storm. When she woke up, she was amazed to see a very beautiful scenery outside of the house. Later, she found out that she had actually landed in the land of the Munchkins and that she had killed the wicked witch of the East unknowingly with her house. The wicked witch of East had been using the Munchkins (people who lived in the land of the East where the witch ruled) as slaves. Then, Dorothy travels to the City of Emeralds to find the Wizard of Oz who could help her to get back to her homeland, Kansas. On her way, she saves Scarecrow (who wishes to have a brain), Tin Woodman (who wishes to have a heart) and the Cowardly Lion (who wishes to have courage) whom later part in the story, helps her in the battle against the wicked witch of the West. She reaches the City of Emeralds and the Wizard of Oz wanted Dorothy and her friends to kill the Wicked witch of West before he would help them. After numerous challenges they faced, they finally killed the witch and got what they each desire to have.
My favourite character is Dorothy. I feel that as a little girl, she is very mature to be able to handle things very well and this can be seen from the adventure where she kills the Wicked Witch of West. She is also very brave as she kills the witch with her friends. She is a very loving girl and she likes her family a lot. When she completes her 'mission', the first thing she wants to do is to get back to Kansas as she misses her uncle and aunt. This story is very interesting and I enjoy it a lot.
L. Frank Baum (15 May 1856 - 6 May 1919) was an American author of children's books, best known for writing The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He was born in Chittenango, New York in 1856. His father, Benjamin Baum was a wealthy businessman, originally a barrel maker, who had made his fortune in the oil fields of Pennsylvania. Baum started writing at an early age, perhaps due to an early fascination with printing(his father bought him a cheap printing press).
