Dear Mr. Jones,

How are you? I know that you have experienced a disaster you have never experienced in your life and you are very nervous and anxious about Japan now. I once lived in Japan but moved back to Singapore to study in the school in Singapore. I remember that I was very young when I experienced a small earthquake. I believe I am able to empathise with you, therefore I am writing this letter of encouragement to you.

I understand that you are feeling afraid that the disaster may happen to your family, having known that the earthquake which caused a tsunami devoured many towns from the northeast side of Japan. Disasters are bound to happen in the world and I feel that it is already very fortunate that minimal amount of people died due to the good measures Japan took against earthquakes. I read from the post you made on yahoo and understood how much you cared for Japan, trying to believe that the damage is not big.

I saw the newspapers and found out that Fukushima nuclear power plant has problems cooling down and is letting off radioactive substances. I hope that although you are feeling very pressured about this incident, you should learn to control your emotions and take good care of your family members especially your sensible daughter who is only five. You should feel fortunate that you did not experience the tsunamis and earthquakes, so I really hope that you could put your attention on your family members and console them in this critical moment. You should not let them worry about you but show them that you are capable to take care of yourself and also take care of them.

After experiencing so much, it would definitely make you a stronger person and also let you have a life experience of earthquake which is good as it will prepare you for the next earthquake if there is any (although nobody hope that such natural disaster would happen.) I really hope you could take this in your stride and carry on with life. After all, life still goes on with all the natural disasters and we, humans have to learn to live with this. Please do not give up! Singapore and many other schools in Singapore have been raising funds and I feel that it will definitely be a great help to Japan in the reconstruction of Japan.

Lastly, I hope that our efforts could make both you and Japan stronger and I wish you all the best!

Yours Sincerely,
Darrel Chua
A student from Singapore
